THE RWANDAN OPPOSITION FDU-INKINGI CONDEMN THE RWANDAN (25.11.06)
The Rwandan opposition, UDF - INKINGI, regrets the Rwandan government's unilateral decision de cut diplomatic relations with France. That decision has been taken in a rush by an extraordinary Cabinet meeting summoned by General Paul KAGAME on 26 November 2006. This is nothing else than a tactical diversion in order to manipulate the national and international opinions and thus strengthen a haven for suspected criminals.
The French justice, within its judicial independence prerogative, in respect to various criminal complaints affidavit submitted by French nationals is doing its duty by investigating Paul KAGAME and nine accomplices for premeditated assassinations and complicity of assassinations in relation to a terrorist act: the downing of the Rwandan presidential airplane on 6 April 1994. This is not a hostile act from the government of France towards the Rwandan state.
If President KAGAME and his accomplices question the fairness or impartiality of the French judicial system they should have the courage to call upon, for the first time since they militarily seized power twelve years ago, for an independent international inquiry! The Rwandan government proves once more that it is a puppet in the hands of the dictator and his clique serving first their personal interests before those of the Rwandan people.
The criminal acts investigated by French Justice Mr. Jean-Louis BRUGUIERE occurred before the setting up of the Rwandese Patriotic Front (RPF)-led government that obstructed by all means any investigation attempts into the terrorist act that triggered and sparked the Rwandan genocide. Because of the investigation findings, the Rwandan opposition forces, FDU-INKINGI, invite all Rwandans, the members of the Parliament, the senators, the members of the Rwanda Defence Forces, the security personnel as well as the RPF leaders not involved in genocide and war crimes to support any action against those criminals that plunged Rwanda into unprecedented bloodshed upheaval.
By extorting the Rwandan government the backing of terrorist suspects and to unilaterally cut diplomatic relations between two States, Paul KAGAME and his accomplices have shown once more that the RPF-led government is only a stooge body in their hands unable to defend the national interests. The Rwandan opposition exhorts the African Union and the United Nations' Security Council to initiate without any delay the necessary consultations to convene an all inclusive Round Table bringing together political groups, civil society, non governmental organisations and other forces, - including members of the RPF and RDF non involved in crimes-, in order to set up an accountable and genuine national government.
The Rwandan opposition beseech the international community, the Heads of States in the Great Lakes, the European Union and the States members of the UN Security Council to support this initiative and to carry out all accompanying measures to bring it to fruition. This peaceful way is the only alternative to avoid new tragedies, to put an end to the impunity, to rehabilitate the victims, to reconcile the Rwandan people and to ensure a lasting solution in the Great Lakes region. We insist in particular that utmost subsequent embargo measures be, with immediate effect, implemented against these terrorist suspects.
